Storytelling
I chose to create a “How to” video on visualizing stories. This presentation is aimed for upper elementary schoolers. Visualizing a story helps with the students comprehension of the over-all text. Visualizing leads to comprehension and comprehension is understanding; important keys in learning. This video would have its most success if presented in during a language arts lesson.
Students would not only learn from the material in the video, but they would also maybe pick up some ideas of how to present when they are doing projects in the future.
To make my video, I used Sliderole.com - a slideshow making website. Sliderole.com was very user friendly. It was easy to form my video how I wanted it to be. I used pictures, but not any pictures from actual stories because the point of the lesson would be for one to visualize the story his/herself. And sliderole allowed me to do that. Sliderole also was helpful when I wanted to adjust the way a slide looked or appeared in the slideshow. It also allows the users to add music to the slides - which is a great tool because music definitely adds a lot to the overall story/slideshow. The only aspect of sliderole that I did not find appealing was the amount of clicking around I had to do before I ended up in the right place – it took me a bit to get used to the way the website, as a whole, was set up. Lucky for me, I found the "help" bar and used it quite often!
