About Me...
Hello, I am Colleen Skelton, a native of Royal Oak, Michigan, a city twenty minutes away from Detroit. I am a junior at Michigan State University majoring in elementary education, with a focus in Language Arts and a minor in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I play for the Women's Ice Hockey Team here at MSU, and the experience has been amazing. As for teaching, I think it will be a very rewarding job, and I can't wait to start. As a teacher, I hope to integrate technology more than what I was introduced to in my schooling. Technology is infinite, and I think it can be a very great tool in the classroom.
Above is a picture from Spring Break last year. My Alternative Spring Break group and I traveled to Kansas City this past spring and worked at a school/day care for at risk youth. We also did other service projects (like help with Feed the Children). I loved every minute of the trip, especially the interactions with the children. I again was reassured that I want to be a teacher. Before I pursue a career in teaching however, I plan to join the Peace Corps. I was blessed with a good life, and I think it is my duty as a human being to give back to those who haven't been as fortunate as I.
